We all have bad days. Something may go wrong early in the day for you and everything that follows just spirals out of control.

The end result of that bad day could leave you stressed out and mentally exhausted.

Before you leave that day in the rearview mirror, it’s worth taking the time to practice some self-care. Queue up a movie on Netflix and give yourself a mental health boost.

The Fundamentals of Caring

Life is hard. That’s a universal truth that we all grow to understand at some point.

In “The Fundamentals of Caring”, we join Ben (Paul Rudd) and Trevor (Craig Roberts) as they begin a journey that involves dealing with the unfortunate circumstances life has foisted upon them.

Ben is dealing with the end of his marriage and a tragic event that has left him saddled with overwhelming feelings of guilt. Meanwhile, Trevor is a teenager who has spent most of his life dealing with the physical and mental complications of Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.

Events that take place throughout the movie show how Ben and Trevor are able to come to terms with the specific problems that have been plaguing them. Through the help of the people around them, they are able to face their problems with greater resolve.

“The Fundamentals of Caring,” tells an inspiring story that is well worth your time. Pull it up on Netflix the next time you want to feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

A Silent Voice

“A Silent Voice” is a Japanese animated film that follows the story of Shoya Ishida and Shouko Nishimiya.

Shouko is a new student at Shoya’s school. She is a deaf young woman who goes out of her way to help others so that her classmates do not dwell on her disability.

Unfortunately, Shouko’s classmates eventually turn on her and she becomes the target of bullying. Shoya is among the leading instigators of bullying.

The bullying gets so bad that Shouko is forced to transfer out of the school. In an attempt to avoid bearing the burden solely for what happened, Shoya implicates his classmates. This backfires on Shoya as his classmates turn on him too.

Years later, a friendless Shoya decides to take his life, but he first wants to make amends with the person he wronged the most. When Shouko and Shoya reunite, they form a friendship that eventually allows them to both heal from the scars of the past.

Rocky Vista University notes how “A Silent Voice” shines the spotlight on the symptoms of a major depressive disorder. The movie shows that recovering from that disorder is still possible if you seek help from your friends and family.

Netflix is a treasure trove of entertainment and it also contains some uplifting gems that can make you smile whenever you’re feeling down. If you ever need a mental health boost, remember to give the aforementioned moves a try.
