Spend less time worrying, more time preparing

Every day is a new day, a new beginning, a new opportunity. Each day is a gift from God and it is just right to be grateful every time we wake up. Though we do not know what the next day holds for us, we should always be filled with hope to carry on. Instead of worrying, let’s try to shift our focus in preparing for uncertainties.

One can’t be faulted for thinking about what the future may bring. But if you spend more time worrying than preparing, you lose. The Bible also reminds us not to worry so much.

“Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life?

MATTHEW 6:25-27 ESV

It’s normal to think about what might happen tomorrow, especially during difficult times. What does the future hold for me? Will I still have a job tomorrow? Is my business going to survive this crisis? So many questions. So many worries. I used to worry a lot too. Until one day, I learned to accept that we are not in control of everything. We can control the amount of effort we put in, but we cannot always control the outcome. Nevertheless, it is still very important to always be prepared for any eventuality. So how can we worry less?

It starts with changing our mindset.

Learn to live in the moment

Learn to live life to the fullest so you don’t have to live with regrets later on. Enjoy each day. Every day is a new opportunity to learn something, to grow, get better. Live in the moment, but make sure that you are also aware of how your choices today can affect your life tomorrow. Enjoy, be happy, but we wise and prudent too.

Peace and joy over fear and worry

Don’t let fear and worry rob you of your peace and joy. You will need those to face life’s challenges head-on. There will be storms in your life, and unless you have inner peace and joy, you will find it difficult to overcome them. Having inner peace and joy will allow you to be still during the most difficult times and come up with creative ideas to go through obstacles in life.

Acceptance equals readiness

I find that acceptance helps me to be more prepared and ready. By learning to accept that certain things are inevitable, it allows me to be ready emotionally and psychologically. Acceptance of the inevitable, however, does not mean that I will stop living my life. No. On the contrary, learning to accept that I am not in control, allows me to just go on with my life. Knowing full well that God is sovereign gives me peace of mind and live without anxiety.

Practice gratitude daily

Whatever you go through in life, be thankful. Always be grateful for what you have, even for the challenges. Challenges, after all, teach you to persevere and build up character. It’s the law of attraction. If you are being grateful and appreciative of the things and people around you, you will attract positive energy and it will manifest in your life. Trust me, it’s effective. If you want a healthy and positive outlook in life, always have an attitude of gratitude.

Plan ahead

Since we don’t know what our future holds, it’s better to plan and prepare now instead of waiting until everything’s too late. We don’t know what will happen tomorrow but we can always do what we can to prepare for it.

Plan where to invest your savings, your budget, get a life/health insurance, invest for a business, consider a mutual fund, don’t forget your emergency fund, save for your kids’ tuition fees, etc. These are the major things which you have to prepare for. Make these your short term and long term goals and really work hard for it. Plant the seeds during your young and productive years. Be an action taker instead of a procrastinator.

Let’s stop worrying about the future. We are not God. Let’s leave it all to Him and be in faith that in any circumstances, it’s still His plans and will that will prevail. It’s His way of showing us that life is a roller coaster ride where everything isn’t perfect.

“You may win a victory today or maybe fail tomorrow but whatever it may be, everything has a purpose.”

May we all be filled with hope, peace, and joy. I hope and pray that whatever each new day brings, no matter what life may bring, may we all learn to trust in God’s sovereignty and depend on His grace to get us through. Let us all live in the knowledge that God always causes all things to work for the good of those who love Him.

Carry on, warrior!
