People helping each other is the most beautiful sight in this Taal volcano crisis

Empathy at its best at the height of chaos.

Filipinos are probably among the most resilient people on the planet. Typhoons, flood, earthquake, and now Taal volcano eruption – they can withstand them all. Thanks to the innate Bayanihan nature that runs in the blood.

Bayanihan, or the spirit of communal unity, work and cooperation is evident once again throughout this whole ordeal. And Filipinos, being one of the biggest users of Facebook, share these photos on social media with the hope of inspiring and encouraging more people to do similar acts in their own little ways.

Here are some screenshots courtesy of Melanio D. Mahilum Jr.

Distributing Facemasks for Free

While there was panic buying for respirator face masks, there are A LOT of individuals and groups who distribute them for free.

Volunteering transportation services

Some people volunteer to help move other people away from the volcano vicinity towards the evacuation sites using their own cars.

Volunteering to clean passing cars and the street

There are people who go out of their way to wash car windshields off ashes for a safer drive.

Providing free food

There are small restaurants and food stall owners who provide free food.

Providing valuable supplies to the evacuation centers

Other groups send more valuable supplies to the evacuees.

Providing more evacuation shelters for people and pets

Many churches and communities open their facilities for evacuation.

As they say, disasters bring out the best and worst in people. I choose to believe that at this crisis in Taal, the best overcome the worst – as evident in these social media posts. May God bless you all, and may all of us be inspired to do our part.

    • Hello Lizzie Lazo our present govt saved us.Do you really want to know the reason why we all have these curses ? kindly read your bible. God judged us because of our being idolatrous…..Filipinos hated God by doing what is not pleasing to God
. Filipinos worshipped their own god,one which is made by human hands . The God who made the heavens and earth ,the one who made us ,gave us life….we just ignore. Filipinos don’t revere him and disregarded. Its about time to humble ourselves to God ,ask His forgiveness so He will heal our land. Please read the book of Exodus 20:3-6,psalm 16:4 and more verses. You may search bible verses. Dont you realized Taal errupted after the black Nazarene parade? This is God’s wrath for those who dont acknowledge Him…ang masama dahil nadadamay ang walang kasali. This is painful because truth hurts .My prayer the Lord will ooen our spiritual eyes and make the necessary action that is to ask Gods forgiveness …we still have time ….its not yet too late….God is gracious ..#He will heal our land.

      • Don’t poison the minds of people by accusing the catholics in believing the “idols”..you misunderstand our “faith”..catholics don’t attack your religious practices but your kind always do vs the catholics. .saan nanggaling ang “religion” nyo? you don’t have the right to claim yours as the true faith. in difficult times we should be united and help others ibstead of blaming yhe CATHOLICS and pres Duterte for all the natural disasters. go out and help those in need than writing an “arrogant” comment. .i already did my part.

    • Naka shabu ata tong buang este impakto na baye na to, Ikaw ata ang ahas na malala ang baho Mong dila 👊👊👊

      • Past governments allowed the building of homes on volcano island. That’s why many are affected. Ideally, people shouldn’t be allowed to stay there because of the volcano being one of the most active volcanoes. Why blame the current government? Think about it.

  3. Hello Lizzie Lazo, how can u say that the govt is poisoning the land? Didn’t you realize that It is the present administration that is inspiring these people to do such generous acts on their own. BEFORE Duterte’s administration, most charitable acts were done for political campaign purposes. There was always a politician’s name / banner attach to it that lead to selfishness and the thought of getting something in return for every thing that you do for others. Now people’s mindset have changed, having a president who always give them the assurance that he is for the people and really does what he says is restoring Filipino’s confidence and hope. To mention few popular leaders doing tremendous jobs are Mayor Isko of Manila, Mr Manny Pinol former DA secretary but now is the head of the MINDA, got the point? There’s more to mention . And that’s why the Filipino people are now empowered and encouraged to be selfless, to restore the bayanihan, to do all that you said during the Taal crisis to help each other. Mabuhay Philippines!

  4. Lizzi lazo

Hoy ka nga buang ka este na babae ka…dont ever put our working government into shame..the mindset that u have still on the term of pinoy….my God..san ka na bansa now day?

  6. Sino naman tong Lizzie Lazo, ano naman ang alam mo? Dahil kamo sa sigasig ng Pangulo natin lahat ay gustong gumawa ng kabutihan. Tingnan mo si Isko Moreno. The President is a living example of a true leader not perfect kasi mumurahin la nyan. Di ka nyan palalampasin.
    Excuse me ka ha!

  7. Lizzi Lazo you have a kind of mind that is so narrow. The present government is better compared to previous ones .shut up your big mouth!Tumulong ka na Lang sa mga nasalanta ng Taal🤨🤨🙄

  8. Lizzi Lazo what an IRRESPONSIBLE statement…I surely dont appreciate that…you are so blind to see for all the impeovements under the new administration…It has progressed TREMENDOUSLY…I felt sorry for you….get a LIFE!

  9. I’m not a Philipine . But I have admired the people and there strength since my youth . They are a people of strength and resilience. My heart is broken for the nation and it’s people . I am a poor man and all I can offer is my heart my tears and my prayers . Please know that God loves you He loves each one if you individually and corporately as a nation . One of the most impressive things that has always blessed my heart is the ability that is demonstrated by the Philippines and it’s people is how that know matter what the tragedy wether man or nature is the way you can set your differences to the side and join hands wether spiritual or political you are a nation of doers and survivors. God bless the Philippines and it’s amazi g wonderfull people . I lose the hands of ministering spirits to begin to tear down and drive out every principalitie and every spiritual wikidness that has come against this nation . May your peace , truth , love , healing and restoration take over and bless the people open there eyes to the truth of a new work that has begun in the land as the Philippines turn to you turn not away but embrace them . Thank you Sir our Beloved who is every where in the name of JESUS 🖖🏼🌿💜
