WTA Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championship is one of the most prestigious tournaments in women’s tennis, and it always attracts some of the best players in the world. This year, Barbora Krejcikova wins the 2023 Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships.
After an extraordinary achievement defeating the world number 1, 2, 3 in three consecutive days, Czech Republic’s Krejcikova has become the champion of this year’s tournament. She is currently ranked 30 in the WTA world rankings.
Quarterfinals win against Sabalenka
In her quarterfinals match against Aryna Sabalenka, ranked no. 2, she was down with 0-6 on the first set. Krejcikova barely made it through the 2nd set over an intense tie break 7-6. She then continued on to win the 3rd set at 6-1. She has impressed a lot of fans from the crowd with this tremendous comeback and started cheering for her as she advanced to the semi-finals round.
Semi-finals win against Pegula
Immediately the following day, Krejcikova is faced against world rank no. 3, Jessica Pegula in the semi-finals round. In this match, she won the game with 6-1, 5-7, 6-0. Based on this tournament results, looks like reaching a 3rd set always favours Krejcikova to win a match.
Finals win against Swiatek
On the tournament finals round, Krejcikova needed to face world rank no. 1, Iga Swiatek. Before the start of the match, Swiatek was shown to have a win probability rate of more than 80%, who would have thought Krejcikova will eventually win this round. Game was decided with the score of 6-4, 6-2, making Krejcikova the champion of the 2023 Dubai Dutyfree Tennis Championships Tournament.
Krejcikova’s victory is a testament to her hard work and talent as a tennis player. It takes an incredible amount of skill, mental strength, and determination to defeat such high-caliber opponents in consecutive matches. It’s not uncommon for lower-ranked players to defeat higher-ranked opponents, as upsets do happen in tennis. However, beating the top three players in the world in the same tournament is rare and truly impressive.
