Ben&Ben a classic fusion of music, art, and passion

Ben&Ben’s performance last night at the Dubai Expo 2020 Jubilee Stage was beyond spectacular.

In front of a jam-packed crowd, the band performed their famous hits including Maybe the Night, Kathang Isip, Pasalubong, Lunod, Di ka Sayang, among others. The energy transports from the stage to the audience – the connection with the 16,000-strong crowd was too evident. It gave me shivers as if it was my first time to see a live show with that much crowd.

Ben&Ben opened with “Pagtingin” which made the fans ecstatic from the long wait. I mean, literally – as the band was originally scheduled to perform last January but had to cancel because of health risk reasons. Luckily Dubai Expo was still able to bring the group at a later date.

Paolo Benjamin and Miguel Benjamin, the Guico twin lead the 9-piece nuggets pack. Other members are Jam Villanueva, Keifer Cabugao, Agnes Reoma, Patricia Lasaten, Andrew de Pano, Toni Muñoz and Poch Barretto.

Confession time – I was not a fan of their music genre at first. I thought, their sound has that classic, old-style tone in it. But after I heard the very meaningful song MAPA performed by Ben&Ben with SB19, I instantly got converted into a huge fan – a proud huge fan. Then I started noticing their songs even more while listening to the radio and online.

Their music grew to my liking. More so after I watched the movie Last Song Syndrome playing in Emirates Airline ICE Entertainment while flying back to Dubai from Manila. Connecting the film story to their songs just made it more meaningful and easily relatable.

I will be honest, they may not be the strongest vocally when it comes to live performance, but more than singing they are telling stories to each of their songs and it is the authenticity that kept many hooked to them. Watching the passion move across each of them while performing creates wonderful music. The instrumentation was just beautiful to see and listen to.

Expo 2020 Dubai

Ben&Ben’s performance at the Jubilee Stage was free for all Expo 2020 Dubai ticketholders. It was like a full-length concert performance with the band treating their fans with two of their new debut songs, Dear and Comets. And then just when everyone thought the show is over, a surprise 4x Platinum award was handed to Ben&Ben by Sony Music Entertainment. A really well-deserved recognition. As if their million views and followers on social media are not enough of a testament to their awesomeness.

The band played Araw-araw last, while 5-minute fireworks lit up the sky at the exact same time. It was crazy! Everyone was just ushered in to a magical finale.

Thank you Ben&Ben for sharing your talent in an amazing performance here in Dubai.
